My family and I moved from Paris (France, not Paris in Virginia) to DC mid August and as a French/Portuguese person, one of my first concerns was to find some good food.
So, almost every time I meet somebody who has lived in DC for a while, I ask questions about where to find great food: fish, meat, bread, chocolat, pastries, wine, tea, honey, cheese, etc.
Right now I’m looking for good bacon, like the one you find in the UK! (my wife is Scottish, and she is desperate for real bacon, me too). Any suggestions?
I have collected many addresses while hitchhiking with French people and also chatting with American parents while our children were playing after school.
When I first came to IMFFA for the newcomer orientation session I met Chad (the one we all know – Hi Chad!) who told me that I would be very welcome to create a new club. I immediately thought about food, but I wasn’t sure about what to do exactly.
One of my first visits to a place recommended to me was The Chocolate House DC (paradise to me). When I figured out that they also organize chocolate tasting + truffle making classes, that was it, the Gourmet Club was born.
Indeed, what could be better than tasting + making + meeting other IMFFA members?! So the first Gourmet Club event was held there at the end of November, and now I need to get organized for the 2017 events… too many ideas, so little time!
Happy New Year and hope to see you soon to share our love for good food
Special thanks to Valerie (who is in charge of the IMFFA chronicles) : I met her for this article at a French pastry shop she wanted me to discover called “Tout de sweet” in Bethesda.
If you missed the “Bûche de Noël” in December, the seasonal cake is now the “Galette des rois”. To be tasted… or eated up!
Be there or be square!
